30 Character in 30 Days | Let the fun begin!

Featured

So, I just found out about this awesome challenge called the 30 Character Challenge (slowpoke) In which, all through November, you make 30 brand new characters along with many other creatives (both illustrators and writers).

My themes for this year are really simple: “Pin-up” and “Urban Subcultures”.

I have an ever growing list of subcultures I find visually interesting, I’ll take one entry from this list every day of November and turn them into something appealing, sexy and visually pleasing.

Once the challenge is finished (and, hopefully, I have 30 new designs) the ones I like the most I’ll turn into fully rendered illustrations, free to download wallpaper and prints that will be available in my Society6 Shop.

This is what you’ll see from me (hopefully) every day of November:

In order to keep myself sane and since I already have a ton of stuff on my plate, I’ll be designing everything but the color palette for the challenge, Not only so I can actually make it, but also because the color schemes might dramatically change when I take the characters for production purposes.
I’m really excited about this challenge, Who else is going to participate?

A little note
The image above in something for another project I’ll be working on (probably near the holidays). A re-imagining of the cast of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic as humans (Yes, I am a Brony) Starting with my very favourite Rarity. More on that later.

3D for 2D

Featured

Lately, I’ve been working a lot on my notebook (the paper one) and not so much on the computer.

Since I have a new, not yet disclosed, project, I’ve come to the need of making several character illustrations, some of them with rather difficult to achieve perspectives.

So I figured, since I’m a 3D artist and all, that I’d give myself a little help usig Blender.

Now, while I do feel as though I’m cheating, I have to keep in mind that, ultimately, I need to acomplish a goal, and this method does make for a great time saver (Plus, I think, I makes the pose look way better than what I was getting).

And, after all, if David Revoy does it, who am I to not do it?

WiP | Re-working old Character Designs

Featured

After the birth of my daughter I’ve had little to no time to even attempt to write something here. So I apologize for the lack of updates.

What I’ve had lots of, however, is inspiration and motivation. With that in mind, I started thinking about an old comic project for web publication.

Here’s one of the character designs, the old one on the left (made about 6 or so years ago) and, to the right, the new concept I’m working with:

I’m not really trying to deviate too much from the original, but to refine and better it.

This one, specially, is one of my favorite character designs for my personal projects. What do you think?

WIP | Lots’a cubes and Vectors

So yeah, long time, huh?

.Playing With Cubes

I’ve been working a concept for a few days “Complexity from simplicity” the first two images are just experimentation with this concept, the third one, which is the only one I consider a finished piece, I put quite a lot more time and effort on.

.Hip Poster

Then there’s this. My first 2D work in quite a while, it’ll end up being a poster soon, More details on it later.

WiP | Finishing, Editing and Compositing

So – Stylized Anatomy

Kat- Low Poly Model n’ Rig

Project Nomad | Teaser

Featured

Just a little “teaser” for my Thesis short fiml “Project Nomad” just to showcase the visual style that will be used in it.

Also, I decided to work this project entirely with open source software, make it low poly and render optimized. Let’s see how it goes… as soon as I actuially have time to work on it, that is.

Software: Blender 2.5

WiP | Sub Surface Scattering, Cabello Low Poly y Sculpting

So

So
